Hareem Farooq Urges Fans to Reject Body Shaming: ‘Your Body Is Not a Public Debate’

Pakistani actor Hareem Farooq has once again addressed the issue of body shaming, encouraging people to move away from unrealistic beauty expectations and develop a more accepting relationship with their bodies.

In a message shared on Instagram, Farooq argued that a person’s appearance should not determine their beauty, worth or place in society. She highlighted the physical changes people experience throughout their lives and urged her followers to respond to their bodies with kindness rather than criticism.

Farooq specifically mentioned common experiences such as stretch marks, acne marks, hair loss and weight changes. She said these changes do not define a person’s value and can occur as the result of ageing, stress, trauma or illness.

Hareem Farooq Says Beauty Goes Beyond Appearance

Farooq’s message focused on the idea that physical appearance represents only one part of a person’s identity.

She described deeper qualities such as love, intelligence, hope, courage, kindness and the desire to improve oneself as more meaningful aspects of beauty.

The actor encouraged people to embrace their individuality instead of constantly comparing themselves with standards created by society.

She also called on her followers to appreciate their bodies for everything they carry them through, while continuing to work towards a healthy lifestyle.

Rather than treating health and body acceptance as opposing ideas, Farooq presented them as part of a more positive approach to self-care.

‘Your Body Is Not a Public Debate’

One of the strongest points in Farooq’s post was her criticism of public commentary about other people’s bodies.

She argued that people should be able to make personal decisions about their lives without having their appearance turned into a topic for public discussion.

Her message extended beyond weight and included issues such as clothing, ageing, physical changes, recovery and personal choices.

Farooq urged people to allow others to exist without constantly measuring them against social expectations.

The actor also encouraged her followers to break the habit of judging themselves and others according to narrow beauty standards.

Farooq Has Discussed Body Image Before

The recent message is consistent with Farooq’s earlier public comments about appearance and the pressure placed on actors to meet particular physical standards.

While promoting her drama Bismil in 2024, Farooq discussed her decision not to follow a crash diet to change her body for the role. She said the pressure to quickly lose weight affected her mental health and questioned why different body types should not be represented on screen.

During the production of Bismil, Farooq also spoke about experiencing psoriasis and initially feeling self-conscious about visible marks on her skin. She ultimately chose not to hide them, saying that seeing such features represented could help others feel less alone about similar experiences.

Her comments have therefore formed part of a longer conversation about representation, appearance and the expectations placed on women in the entertainment industry.

Actor Has Faced Appearance-Related Criticism

Farooq has also experienced public scrutiny over her own appearance.

In 2021, remarks made about her weight by fellow actor Faryal Mehmood during a television appearance generated criticism and renewed discussion about body shaming in the entertainment industry.

Farooq had previously spoken about receiving comments that she was too big or too heavy to work in front of the camera. She has emphasized that health, confidence and personal wellbeing are more important than conforming to a particular physical image.

Her latest Instagram message continues that theme, asking people to show greater respect toward themselves and others.

Farooq’s comments come as conversations around body image and unrealistic beauty standards continue across social media, where celebrities and public figures often face immediate commentary about changes in their appearance.
