Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has explained why she prefers to keep her husband and other family members largely away from the public spotlight, saying they never chose a life that comes with constant public scrutiny.
The actress, 39, married former Danish badminton player Mathias Boe in an intimate ceremony in December 2023 after being in a relationship with him for around a decade.
Despite her high-profile career, Taapsee has generally avoided making her personal life a regular feature of her social media accounts. She also rarely shares photographs involving her husband or his family.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, the actress explained that her decision is based on her family’s privacy rather than an attempt to hide her marriage.
Taapsee pointed out that posting a photograph or video does not necessarily affect only the celebrity appearing in it. Family members, friends and guests can also become subjects of public attention simply because of their association with her.
According to the actress, she willingly accepted the level of attention that comes with working in the entertainment industry. However, she does not believe that the same expectation should automatically apply to her relatives.
She also noted that her husband is a sports personality, but the level of attention surrounding his private life is different from the scrutiny experienced by a Bollywood actor.
Taapsee’s approach reflects her broader preference for maintaining a distinction between her professional identity and her personal relationships.
The actress and Mathias Boe reportedly began dating in 2013 and managed to keep much of their relationship private before eventually getting married in 2023.
Their wedding was kept relatively low-key, consistent with the couple’s decision to avoid turning their relationship into a constant subject of public discussion.
Taapsee has remained considerably more open about her professional career. Over the years, she has built a filmography that includes movies such as Pink, Thappad, Haseen Dillruba and Dunki.
More recently, she appeared in the action thriller Gandhari, which was released on September 3.
While Taapsee continues to attract attention for her acting projects, her comments about family privacy offer insight into why she has chosen not to make every aspect of her personal life public.
For the actress, being a public figure appears to be a professional choice that does not automatically extend to the people closest to her.
