In a decision that’s generated widespread debate, the much-anticipated Punjabi film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ will not release in Indian theaters. Instead, the film is scheduled for an international debut on June 27, 2025, with Pakistan among the confirmed premiere locations.
The film features a high-profile cast led by Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, and Pakistani star Hania Aamir, and marks the third installment in the beloved Sardaar Ji franchise. But despite its Indian roots and a loyal fanbase, the movie has been denied theatrical distribution in India—a move tied to escalating backlash over the inclusion of Pakistani talent.
A Political Firestorm Surrounds the Film’s Release
The situation took a turn when Indian viewers noticed that the official trailer was blocked on YouTube within the country. Attempts to access the clip result in the message: “This video is not available in your country,” adding fuel to the controversy.
More pressure has come from industry bodies. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) formally petitioned the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to refuse release approval, arguing that the film could pose concerns “against national interest.”
Additionally, Hania Aamir’s Instagram profile appears to be geo-restricted within India, a decision speculated to be connected to the growing backlash.
Storyline and Creative Team
Despite the political storm, the film offers a unique premise: a horror-comedy hybrid that sees ghost hunters, played by Diljit and Hania, teaming up to cleanse a haunted house in the UK. Directed by Amar Hundal, the narrative weaves supernatural tension with humor and romance, including a paranormal love triangle featuring Neeru Bajwa in a pivotal role.
The film also stars Pakistani performers Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar, and Saleem Albela—adding cross-border cultural depth to the project but also intensifying public scrutiny.
