Pakistani actor Muneeb Butt has been declared innocent by investigators in a kidnapping and cryptocurrency robbery case being heard by an anti-terrorism court in Karachi.
The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) cleared the actor in the investigation report submitted to the court, stating that no sufficient evidence was found to establish his involvement in the alleged crime.
Muneeb Butt appeared before the court along with other accused during the latest hearing, after which proceedings were adjourned. The court will review the investigation findings and other available evidence as the case continues.
According to the challan submitted by the investigation team, the allegations against Muneeb Butt could not be proven during the inquiry. The actor had been accused of helping arrange accommodation in Murree for individuals allegedly involved in the incident, but investigators did not find enough evidence linking him directly to the crime.
The case involves allegations of kidnapping and robbery of cryptocurrency worth 2.494 million. According to the prosecution, a citizen was allegedly kidnapped from Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal area on April 23 and deprived of cryptocurrency and other valuables while in the custody of the suspects.
The complainant was later reportedly abandoned in the Korangi Industrial Area, according to the case record. The investigation was launched after the incident, leading authorities to identify several individuals allegedly connected to the case.
Police officer Ghalib, who is named as one of the suspects in the case, remains absconding. Authorities have continued efforts to trace and arrest him as legal proceedings move forward.
Meanwhile, Muneeb Butt, Mohsin Rajpar, and Abdul Rehman Chandio have already secured bail in the case. The court will determine the next course of action after reviewing the police investigation report and additional evidence presented during future hearings.
The development marks a significant change in the case involving the actor, as investigators have formally removed him from the list of accused persons based on their findings. However, the overall proceedings will continue against other individuals linked to the allegations.
The case has attracted public attention due to the involvement of a well-known entertainment figure and allegations involving cryptocurrency theft, reflecting the growing legal challenges surrounding digital assets and cyber-related crimes in Pakistan.
