Pakistani actress Hira Khan has strongly criticized a media portal for allegedly twisting her remarks regarding traditional gender roles, saying her statements were taken out of context and misrepresented online.
Reacting through her Instagram story, Hira expressed frustration over what she described as a “complete distortion” of her actual comments about gender roles in marriage. She clarified that her original statement emphasized her belief in not strictly following traditional gender roles within a marital relationship.
The actress explained that her remarks were centered on equality and shared responsibility between spouses, rather than rejecting the identities of a man and a woman in marriage. She stressed that both she and her husband actively contribute to professional responsibilities as well as household duties.
According to Hira, their approach to marriage is based on mutual support and balance, where both partners share tasks inside and outside the home. She said this is why they do not strictly adhere to conventional gender-based expectations.
Hira further questioned how her statement was transformed into a misleading narrative, pointing out that the circulated version of her remarks did not accurately reflect what she originally said. She also highlighted that the translated or rephrased headline being shared online made little logical sense compared to her actual explanation.
The controversy began after a media headline suggested that Hira Khan had stated she and her husband did not marry each other as a man and a woman. The actress rejected this interpretation, calling it misleading and urging media platforms to report responsibly.
She also advised her followers to be cautious while consuming online content and not to believe every headline without verifying its context. “Please don’t believe everything these pages say. They are here for some clicks,” she stated.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns around sensationalism and misreporting in digital media, where short headlines and edited statements can often lead to misunderstandings and public controversy.
