Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana has addressed social media criticism surrounding his upcoming film Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, rejecting claims that the project promotes regressive themes.
The actor, known for selecting socially relevant and unconventional roles, clarified that he would never be part of a film that encourages harmful or outdated narratives. His comments come after online backlash accusing the film of normalizing infidelity and problematic relationship dynamics.
Speaking in an interview with Mathrubhumi English, Ayushmann Khurrana explained that the film’s core message has been misunderstood by audiences reacting to its trailer. He emphasized that the story is intended as a comedy of errors rather than a serious endorsement of toxic behavior.
“I have always been part of progressive cinema. I will never be part of a film that is regressive. We are not glorifying infidelity with Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. It’s more of a comedy of errors,” the actor said during the interview.
He further clarified that his character is portrayed as a responsible partner who actively tries to protect his relationship, rather than encouraging infidelity or negative conduct. According to him, the narrative focuses on situational humor and misunderstandings rather than moral endorsement of any specific behavior.
The controversy began after the film’s trailer sparked debate across social media platforms, where users questioned the portrayal of relationships and emotional boundaries. Some critics argued that the storyline could be interpreted as normalizing cheating, leading to widespread discussion online.
Despite the criticism, Ayushmann Khurrana maintained that the film’s intent is comedic and should be viewed in that context. He reiterated that audiences will understand the narrative more clearly once they watch the full film.
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film also features Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh in key roles. The project continues Ayushmann’s trend of working in films that blend entertainment with socially reflective themes.
With the debate still ongoing, the film has already generated significant attention ahead of its release, adding to expectations around its box office performance and audience reception.
