The global K-pop sensation BTS has been named “Artist of the Year” at the American Music Awards, marking another major milestone in the group’s international dominance.
The fan-voted ceremony, held in Las Vegas and broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+, saw BTS outperform some of the world’s biggest music icons, including Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga.
Alongside the top honor, BTS also secured the “Song of the Summer” award for their track “Swim,” further strengthening their presence across global music charts and award platforms.
The ceremony highlighted a strong showing from international artists, with competition spanning multiple genres and regions. Despite intense rivalry, BTS maintained a strong fan-driven voting advantage, reflecting their massive global following and continued cultural influence.
The group also delivered a pre-recorded opening performance of “Hooligan,” filmed during a stop on their Vegas concert tour. Dressed in coordinated black outfits and sunglasses, the performance reinforced their signature stage identity and high-production concert style.
The event also saw notable wins outside the pop category. Indie artist Sombr received recognition for Best Rock/Alternative Song with “Back to Friends,” later also winning Best Rock/Alternative Album for “I Barely Know Her.” In his acceptance speech, he reflected on his early struggles and unexpected rise in the music industry.
Meanwhile, “Golden,” a track from the Netflix animated film “KPop Demon Hunters,” earned Song of the Year, further showcasing the growing crossover between streaming entertainment and music award platforms.
BTS’s latest achievement adds to their already extensive list of international accolades and reinforces their position as one of the most influential musical acts in the world. The group continues to bridge global audiences, breaking language and cultural barriers through music and performance.
Industry analysts note that fan-voted awards like the AMAs increasingly reflect global streaming trends and digital fan engagement, where K-pop groups such as BTS consistently perform strongly due to highly organized and active fan communities.
The win is expected to further boost BTS’s global visibility as the group continues its international touring and music projects, strengthening their status in both Western and Asian music markets.
