Actor Vikrant Massey’s latest release, “12th Fail,” a biographical drama based on the real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, has been submitted for consideration at the prestigious Academy Awards.
The film, which was initially released in Hindi on October 27, was re-released in dubbed Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu versions on November 3, following its success in Hindi-speaking regions.
“12th Fail” is written, directed, and produced by acclaimed filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and stars Massey in the titular role alongside Medha Shankar, Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, and Priyanshu Chatterjee.
At a recent literary festival, Massey confirmed the film’s submission for the Oscars as an independent nomination. He also spoke about his journey in the film industry, sharing that he started working at the age of 15 to support his family.
The actor, who has transitioned from television to the silver screen, is also a trained dancer under the guidance of ace choreographer Shiamak Davar.
“12th Fail” is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Anurag Pathak, which chronicles the inspiring story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame extreme poverty and educational limitations to become an IPS officer.
The film’s submission for the Oscars marks a significant achievement for Massey and the Indian film industry. If selected, it would be a major recognition of the film’s quality and its potential to resonate with audiences worldwide.
