Renowned actress Sarwat Gilani has made startling revelations about her experience working with superstar Humayun Saeed and acclaimed director Nadeem Baig, accusing them of unprofessional behavior and sidelining her in the popular Jawani Phir Nahi Aani (JPNA) film franchise.
In a recent interview, the actress shared that her time on the sets of the first two installments of JPNA left her feeling disrespected and undervalued. Gilani said that despite playing a memorable role that contributed significantly to the film’s success, she was not treated fairly by the team.
According to Gilani, her character’s screen time in the first film was drastically reduced without her knowledge. When the sequel was announced, she initially declined to participate because of her previous experience. However, she changed her mind after director Nadeem Baig personally assured her that her character would have a complete and meaningful arc in Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 2.
Unfortunately, the actress said the same pattern repeated. “My role was again cut short, and I was excluded from most of the film’s promotional activities,” she revealed. Gilani also claimed that she was left out of the movie’s London promotional tour, even though she had purchased her own tickets. “The schedule wasn’t shared with me. I later discovered that the team had already left,” she said.
Expressing frustration, Gilani noted that the filmmakers “only remember me when they need work.” She explained that after each project, she was ignored and excluded from major engagements. “I have decided I will no longer tolerate such treatment. Respect and fairness are non-negotiable,” she said firmly.
The actress also confirmed that she declined to return for Jawani Phir Nahi Aani 3, despite being approached by the production team. “I’ve learned my lesson. I want to work in spaces where I am valued, not sidelined,” she stated.
While Sarwat Gilani expressed disappointment, she maintained that she still respects both Humayun Saeed and Nadeem Baig. “I meet them with respect, but I’ve made my decision not to be part of this franchise anymore,” she clarified.
Released in 2015 and 2018, the Jawani Phir Nahi Aani films were major box office successes, featuring an ensemble cast including Vasay Chaudhry, Ahmad Ali Butt, and Humayun Saeed. Gilani’s portrayal of a spirited Pathan woman married to Vasay Chaudhry’s character was widely praised for its humor and chemistry.
Her recent allegations, however, have cast a shadow over the upcoming JPNA 3, raising questions about behind-the-scenes treatment and gender equality in Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
