Pakistani dramas have gained a global following due to their engaging narratives, exceptional casting, and high-quality production values. They have a wide appeal not only in Pakistan but also in other countries such as Nepal, India, UAE, KSA, and Bangladesh. One unique aspect that sets Pakistani dramas apart from their Indian counterparts is their shorter duration of three to four months, which allows for a conclusive and satisfying ending. In contrast, Indian dramas can go on for years without a definite resolution.
One such Pakistani drama that has captured the attention of audiences both on television screens and online platforms such as YouTube is ARY Digital’s Samjhota. The show boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Javed Sheikh, Zain Baig, Shaista Lodhi, Shazeal Shoukat, Sidra Niazi, and Momina Iqbal, among others. Each episode of Samjhota has garnered over a million views on YouTube, demonstrating the drama’s widespread popularity.
However, the 33rd episode of Samjhota received some criticism from viewers due to a particular scene. In that sequence, the characters played by Shazeal Shaukat and Zain Baig attend a college party where students are celebrating the Hindu festival of Holi by throwing colors at each other. Zain Baig’s character makes a concerning statement, suggesting that he would take his own life if Shazeal’s character rejects his proposal, adding to the backlash. Some viewers found the scene to be culturally insensitive and called for a revision.
