Pakistani singer and songwriter Adnan Dhool has expressed disappointment over the lyrics of Tu Mil Jaaye, the recently released song from Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming Bollywood film King. The track features vocals by popular Indian singer Arijit Singh and has attracted attention following its release.
In a video shared on social media, Dhool discussed his reaction to the song, making it clear that he admired both Shah Rukh Khan and Arijit Singh. However, he felt that the lyrical quality of the new track did not match the expectations associated with such prominent names in the music and film industries.
Questioning one of the song’s lines, the Pakistani musician expressed frustration with what he considered an overly simple and commercially driven approach to songwriting.
Dhool’s comments focused mainly on the importance of meaningful lyrics in music. He suggested that popular songs should offer more than catchy melodies and commercial appeal, as strong writing plays an equally important role in creating memorable musical experiences.
The singer also compared the new track with older musical classics, highlighting the poetic depth associated with legendary Indian lyricists such as Gulzar. According to his perspective, the music industry should continue valuing creativity and meaningful expression rather than prioritising commercial success alone.
His remarks have brought renewed attention to Tu Mil Jaaye, which was released on November 2 as the first song from Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King.
The romantic track features Shah Rukh Khan alongside Deepika Padukone. It brings together an interesting musical collaboration involving Arijit Singh, Madhubanti Bagchi and international singer Ed Sheeran.
The composition has been created by music duo Sachin-Jigar, while the Hindi lyrics have been penned by Kumaar. The combination of established Bollywood artists and international musical talent has made the song an important part of the film’s promotional campaign.
However, Dhool’s criticism has introduced another discussion surrounding the track, particularly regarding the balance between commercial music production and lyrical quality.
Adnan Dhool is a recognised name in Pakistan’s music industry. He gained popularity as one half of the musical duo Soch, which he formed with guitarist Rabi Ahmed in 2010.
The duo gradually established a following through their distinctive musical style and meaningful songwriting. One of their biggest breakthroughs came with Awari, which gained widespread recognition after being performed on Nescafé Basement in 2012.
The song later became even more popular when it was featured in the Bollywood film Ek Villain, introducing Soch’s music to a wider audience across the region.
Dhool is also known for tracks such as Bol Hu and Uth Jawana, which further strengthened his reputation as a singer, songwriter and composer.
His latest comments reflect his views on the importance of artistic standards in contemporary music. While commercial songs continue to dominate the entertainment industry, his criticism has once again highlighted the debate over whether meaningful lyrics should receive greater attention in modern songwriting.
As King continues building anticipation among Shah Rukh Khan fans, the discussion surrounding its first released song has added another talking point to the film’s growing publicity.
