70s iconic film ‘Anand’ gets a remake

The iconic film ‘Anand,’ starring Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan at the time, is being remade. This time by Sameer Raj Sippy, grandson of the film’s original producer, N.C. Sippy, and Vikram Khakhar.

The film’s director and actors are still being finalised as the script is being written. “Digging into our own classics, we will unearth irreplaceable treasures rather than looking for stories. Whether internationally or regionally,” producer Vikram Khakhar said in a statement. Expressing his delight at the move.

Placing Anand in the post-Covid age. Where the value of life is emphasised. Which will inturn enrich Anand’s story.”

The 1971 film starred Rajesh Khanna as Anand Sehgal. A terminally ill cancer patient whose treatment is taken on by Amitabh. However, fate has other plans for Anand. As his cancer progresses and he passes away. But not before leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many of the people he met. Including a complete stranger, Isa Bhai Suratwala, played by the renowned Johnny Walker.

Producer Sameer Raj Sippy believes that such stories should be given to the next generation. In order to educate them about our cinematic history.
Details about the film’s development and technical staff are being kept under wraps. The film will shortly go into production when Sameer Raj Sippy and Vikram Khakhar have finalised the cast.
