Zaheer Iqbal, the husband of Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha, has opened up about their interfaith marriage, asserting that religion has never been a stumbling block for their relationship.
Addressing the Public
In a recent interview with an Indian media outlet, both Zaheer and Sonakshi discussed the online trolling and criticism they have faced due to their interfaith marriage. The couple shared their views on each other’s religions and how they manage to keep their relationship strong amidst the negativity.
Cultural Harmony
When questioned about whether they intend to embrace each other’s cultures and religions, Sonakshi enthusiastically responded, “Absolutely! I think it will be beautiful.” She elaborated that despite their religious differences, their core values are the same. “Our parents have taught us to be good human beings and believe in God, irrespective of whatever name you know him by. The most important thing in life is to be a good person – that’s the kind of values we have imbibed.”
A Unified Front
Zaheer Iqbal, sharing his wife’s views, emphasized that their religious backgrounds have never caused any disagreements. “I know one thing for sure: that I could have 50,000 disagreements with Sona, but it will never have anything to do with religion,” he said. He recounted advice given to him by Salim Khan, Salman Khan’s father, which has been a guiding principle for him. “Salim uncle had once shared with me that this is what he had told Salma Aunty’s parents when they got married,” Zaheer revealed.
Ignoring the Noise
Sonakshi highlighted that their different faiths have never been a topic of contention in their relationship. “In the seven years that we were dating, the fact that we are from different faiths has never come up in a discussion. We both respect other religions. It’s never been an issue for us or even a discussion,” she stated. She added that the only negativity they face is from outsiders. “The only noise is from the outside.”
Their Love Story
For those who may not know, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal got married in a private civil ceremony on June 23, following a relationship that spanned over seven years. Their union is a shining example of love transcending religious boundaries, demonstrating mutual respect and understanding.
