Lahore police have taken strict action against an alleged immoral event and photo shoot that sparked outrage on social media. The crackdown resulted in the arrest of the main suspect, along with several others linked to the gathering.
Police Action and FIR
Authorities confirmed that an FIR had been registered after videos from the event went viral online. Officials said the operation was part of a broader effort to prevent unlawful gatherings that promote obscenity under the guise of entertainment.
DIG Operations Lahore stated that immoral activities would not be tolerated. He added that those found guilty of organizing or attending such events would face strict legal action.
Joyland Screening Halted
In a related move, Punjab authorities blocked the planned screening of the film Joyland in Lahore. The film had been previously banned in the province, despite receiving international recognition at Cannes and being selected as Pakistan’s Oscar entry. The screening was scheduled for August 17 and was expected to include a Q&A session with director Saim Sadiq.
Maria B Welcomes Action
Fashion designer Maria B applauded the police decision on social media. She described the development as a win for parents and families concerned about preserving cultural and religious values. “This isn’t the end of the struggle against harmful agendas,” she wrote.
Background of the Controversy
Joyland has remained controversial in Pakistan since its release, with conservative groups opposing its themes. Organizers OLOMOPOLO Media and Ticketwala had announced the Lahore screening earlier this week, with Saim Sadiq personally confirming it on Instagram.
