Practical Magic 2: Sandra Bullock Returns With a New Generation of Witches

More than two decades after the original charmed audiences, Practical Magic is finally returning with a sequel—this time with fresh faces and familiar magic. Sandra Bullock reprises her role as Sally Owens, and Nicole Kidman joins her once again as the fearless Gillian Owens.

The new film reunites Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing as the beloved aunts, Jet and Franny Owens. Their presence is expected to reestablish the warm, mystical atmosphere that gave the 1998 film its cult status.

A notable shift comes with the introduction of new characters. Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod have all been cast, though their specific roles remain unannounced. Speculation suggests King may portray an older version of one of Sally’s daughters—possibly Kylie—though the original actress, Evan Rachel Wood, has confirmed she will not return, citing the decision to recast.

Behind the camera, director Susanne Bier brings her talent for emotionally charged storytelling to the project. With a script penned by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett, the sequel is positioned to offer a mix of nostalgic callbacks and fresh plotlines. Both Bullock and Kidman are also executive producing alongside Denise Di Novi.

Warner Bros. has confirmed a theatrical release date of September 18, 2026. The storyline remains tightly under wraps, but hints point toward inspiration from The Book of Magic, Alice Hoffman’s 2021 continuation of the Owens family saga.

The magic is set to return—this time, with even deeper roots and a broader generational spell.
